This platinum probe is not suitable for salt electrolysis treatment.
- In salt electrolysis, a standard (platinum) probe becomes poisoned by the hydrogen released during electrolysis, hence the need to use a gold probe for salt electrolysis.
This black RX probe with platinum interior will be able to measure the Redox of salt electrolysis pool water for several years. Redox measures the oxidation power of the pool: the higher the redox, the more free chlorine is in the pool water.
The probe has a standard BNC connection and is interchangeable with probes from most other brands.
The probe has a diameter of 12mm and a length of 120mm and is usually installed in the pipe via a 1/2 inch probe holder.
The probe needs to be calibrated once a year (against a calibration solution of 468 mV).
After calibration, the ideal redox value of the pool must be determined. This value depends on several factors and varies for each pool.
For this, you measure the chlorine content in the pool (when the pH is between 7.2 and 7.6), using a good quality chlorine meter.
If the chlorine content is lower than 0.8 - 1.2 ppm, you need to raise the redox target value.
If the chlorine content is higher than 0.8 - 1.2 ppm, you need to lower the redox value. With a good Redox probe, the measured redox at 1 ppm chlorine will be between 600 and 800 mV.
We recommend storing the probes in KCl storage solution during the winter. During calibration and/or winter, you can close the probe connection with dummy probes. The probe must always be kept moist.
Because of the rubber seals, it is not necessary to use Teflon or thread tape in the drilling saddle or union.
The probe is supplied without mounting accessories
